My path to becoming a counsellor has grown from both personal and professional experiences that have shaped my understanding of how vital emotional support can be. Throughout my career, I've worked alongside people facing various life challenges, from supporting victims of crime and families affected by road traffic accidents, to helping single parents navigate new chapters in their lives. My work with the perinatal charity Light Peer Support in Sheffield has given me particular insight into the emotional challenges of pregnancy and early parenthood.
For twenty years, I worked in primary education as a teaching assistant and learning mentor, providing pastoral care to children and their families. This experience taught me the importance of creating a safe, nurturing environment where people feel truly heard. It was during this time that my interest in counselling deepened, as I saw how transformative it could be to have someone really listen without judgement.
My own life experiences, including losing a family member in traumatic circumstances, have given me a deep appreciation for the courage it takes to reach out for support. I understand first-hand how challenging life's journey can be, and how important it is to have someone walk alongside you during difficult times. These experiences influenced my decision to train as a counsellor, allowing me to support others in finding their way through darkness towards hope.
